Malena Henderson's Notes On:

Day 3

GrowthDay 2025

Day 3 brought together an all-star lineup of speakers starting with Brendon's teaching on being a role model and the ripple effects of conscious leadership, followed by Erwin McManus on character mastery and the journey toward courage through integrity.

Ed Mylett delivered his signature "Power of One More" message, emphasizing that confidence comes from keeping promises to yourself and always doing one more rep, one more call, or one more effort than required.

The day concluded with Dara Ladjevardian's insights on the AI revolution and how embracing technological change while maintaining human connection and authenticity will define success in the future.

What started as a great way to get "aligned" with life, business, and relationships, my husband Matt and I purchased tickets the moment they went on sale.

Unfortunately, Matt and our dog Marty ended up not being able to make the trip. So, this became a solo adventure for me into the unbelievable world of GrowthDay!

Role Model Mindset

The Importance of Being a Role Model

  • 2 jobs in life

    • #1 Summon the best of who I am (for myself)

    • #2 Be a role model (for others)

  • When we do #1, we become an inspiration for others;those who consciously decide to lead and be role models cause ripple effects that change the world

  • Influence needs to be explicit; we can’t just think this way, we need to express it. When we pull ourselves out of the pit, others notice

Communication and Connection

  • We live in a society of poor communicators (look at Twitter); we’re not taught to communicate well

  • What we express becomes an example that perpetuates larger conversations

  • Speaking things into existence is more powerful than just thinking them

  • Take the good intentions, ideas, and dreams and share with the people around you

  • Ex: interview w/his father; he expressed the same values he spoke about, throughout his life

The Role Model Mindset

  • Role model mindset is a "master switch" for self-regulation

  • If you lack emotional control, you probably lack role model mindset

  • Believe in yourself and believe that you’re setting an example for others; believe in possibility

Need To Avoid

  • Detachment (from the moment); we need to lock into the moment, the upward path

  • Yo-You success, or inconsistency; strong 3 months and then fall off, super productive around holidays then doing nothing

  • Loneliness; surround yourself with other strivers

Five Things To Focus On

  • Mental Edge

    • Conviction, focus

    • Embrace challenge and push self beyond what's comfortable or easy

  • Poise

    • Composure when things aren’t going well, during the tough game

    • High self-regulation and professionalism

  • Leadership

    • Lead your family, friends

    • Start a movement or community

  • Longevity Practices

    • Taking care of health, both mental and physical

  • Wealth Building

    • Need to learn how to make money, increase sales, get promoted

    • Don’t be scared of people who make money, study them

Erwin McManus: Character Mastery

Erwin McManus

  • Founder of Mosaic

  • Author, speaker, fashion designer

  • "A moment can inspire us but a community can transform us"

Self Mastery

  • McManus fascinated by mastery in any domain/arena of life

  • Has tried many different pursuits to attain mastery

  • Describes meeting masters in various fields (violinists, painters, athletes, chess players)

  • Three dynamics involved in mastery:

    • Talent - internal ability

    • Discipline/Practice/Passion - need to love the discipline enough to elevate your talent

    • Process - wrong process lowers our ceiling (ex - playing tennis wrong)

Character Mastery

  • I have all of the talent necessary to be my optimal self

  • Don’t waste energy trying to be someone else

  • “I want to be the best version of myself” vs. “I want to be better than her”

  • “You can never be the best someone else"

  • You will be the worst version of you if you do not put the work in

Character Transformation

  • Character transformation is not a destination, it’s a journey

  • Quest for honor, enlightenment, nobility

  • Mastery of ourselves begins with COURAGE

    • Courage is not the absence of fear, but the absence of self

  • Courage comes from INTEGRITY

    • Integrity is what’s on the outside is the same as inside; does what it’s supposed to do (banana example)

  • We can choose integrity but often we choose to have a fake exterior that doesn’t match our true interior/character

Remember

  • The shape of your character is the shape of your future

  • The choices you make create the future you will live

  • When life gets hard, you’re going to learn a new lesson. If you retreat at the same pressure point every time, only learn the same lesson over & over

  • You gain wisdom through perseverance

"A lot of discovery happens on the other side of decision"

Brendon Burchard

Ed Mylett: Confidence & A Purposeful Life

Ed Mylett

  • "You were born to do something great with your life"

  • Speaker, coach, author, podcast

  • Struggled with confidence his whole life

  • Alcoholic/drug addict dad

  • Bullied as a child

  • Considers himself very introverted; goes from plane to hotel to room when traveling

Confidence

  • "Confidence bends reality"

  • Build confidence by keeping promises we make to ourselves

  • Rig the game in my favor; set up things I can control to give self confidence. Example of making your bed every morning

  • Make deposits into my "confidence bank" - be aware and acknowledge successes so have a big bank for when people take from it

  • Don’t predict confidence on the wrong things - example of buying fake Mercedes vs. driving a Honda

  • THE POWER OF ONE MORE

  • Give yourself credit for the things you’re doing

Trilogy of Self-Confidence

  • Faith

    • We spend every single day w/ourselves yet we allow negative self-talk

    • Need to become self aware of these negative thoughts when they come and change thinking

    • Faith that we were born in His likeness, to be something great; don’t give into doubt or discouragement but have faith in success

  • Intention

    • Think about our purpose rather than our abilities; focus on helping not impressing

    • Have good intentions, a pure heart, a true desire to help

    • Confidence comes from looking within, not comparing to others or measuring our results

  • Association

    • Surround ourselves with people who believe in us

    • The thermostat turns on and lowers temp in the room; our identity is the thermostat; it turns up or down to match the environment, or those around us.

  • + Standards

    • “You’re going to get your standards, not your goals”

    • Standard of One More - 1 more rep in the gym, 1 more phone call

    • Always do 1 more than required; might not have confidence in ability but have confidence in knowing you’ll outwork someone

  • + Mental Rehearsal

    • Our mind moves towards what it’s familiar with; envision the future, envision the goal; mind will go there faster

    • Must envision positive/success, not failure/defeat

    • “Your obsessions become your possessions”

Competitive

  • You want to change things? Start to get competitive

  • Compete with yourself; compete with what you’re capable of

  • Once you start getting wins, you get momentum

  • Example of son Max; same kid, same golf swing but he changed his mindset that day

  • Just go for it; we’re playing with house money

Remember

  • "You're most qualified in life to help the person you used to be"

  • “Earn this” clip from Saving Private Ryan; understand who we're earning life for

  • At the end, when we look back on our life, how can we answer the question “was I a good person?”

Optimism and Activation

Optimize and Activate

  • We must have optimism to have success; it enables us to move forward

  • Optimism is having faith in the forward position; believe the next day will be better

  • Most people don’t activate b/c they don’t have optimism; they don’t believe the future will be better

  • Think about our Ascendancy Mindset - we must believe in the future to go upward and succeed

  • Make the decision and then learn on the other side

    • We think we need to know everything first before we make the move but it’s the opposite

    • “A lot of discovery happens on the other side of decision”

    • “Play Motion”

Dara Ladjevardian: AI Revolution

Dara Ladjevardian

  • CEO/co-founder of Delphi

  • Founded Delphi to create digital versions of minds

  • Inspired by wanting to interview his deceased grandfather

  • Brendon AI

AI

  • Media has been training us to be afraid of AI since The Terminator

  • AI replicates human thought by using pattern recognition

  • LLM’s (large language model) are like “calculators for language” trained on human text. Instead of combining numbers it combines words

  • Ex - playing guess the next word with “Old Macdonald Had A Farm”

  • 3 yrs ago = 4th grade intelligence - now = PhD level

  • $500 Billion being spent on AI development

History of Progress

  • As humans we’re constantly trying to improve ourselves; we write books, hire teams, scale our thoughts

  • Always thinking of new ways to communicate

  • Cave drawings, printing press; flash led to YouTube; smartphones to WhatsApp

  • 1st Industrial Revolution: steam engine did manual work

  • 2nd Industrial Revolution: tractors eliminated manual farming

  • Radio: increased social connections around the world, podcasts

  • Internet: created the knowledge economy; we can learn anywhere in the world

  • AI Revolution: easier than ever to learn a skill

Future Vision of AI

  • AI will replace some routine tasks which allows us to think bigger

  • Replace tasks but not desire for human connection/entertainment

  • Instantaneous, free, hyper-intelligent AI that knows users well

  • Bring back sense of community and human connection which will be a scarce resource

  • Healthcare advancements; can think beyond our capabilities to cure disease

  • Renewable energy sources

Navigating AI

  • Our current “abundance era” with so much info at fingertips will lead to a desire for specialized or authentic/true era from trusted people

  • Know that AI makes mediocrity abundant; not everything is quality

  • Competition is coming; AI won’t “replace” us but someone using it will

Personal Success Frameworks

  • Steve Jobs quote: “Everything around you was made by people no smarter than you” so embrace this learning process

  • Our learning is endless - we don’t need to go to college for 4 years; can learn same amount in weeks - must focus on what we’re best at, what we love the most

  • Embrace uncertainty

  • Legacy - remember that what you develop today can last a lifetime
